Mrs. Ward

Mrs. Ward attended Ithaca College for four years where she earned her Bachelor’s degree.  After graduating from Ithaca she went to Cortland and received her Master's degree.  Mrs. Ward started working at Newark Valley High School in the fall of 1983.  Mrs. Ward wanted to become a teacher because she always felt like she was one; she says she tried to teach her class when she was in kindergarten.  The reason she chose to teach history was because she loved  listening to her grandmother's stories of the past.  Outside of school Mrs. Ward spends time with her husband Jeff, who is a retired coach and P.E. teacher from Newark Valley.  She is part of a book club, and she says she likes to go shopping and try new restaurants. Mrs. Ward’s least favorite thing about teaching is having to wake up so early; her favorite thing about teaching is getting to know the students. Since she doesn't have children of her own she feels like her students are her children. Mrs. Ward also enjoys being the Student Council and Senior Class Advisor because she gets to know the students outside of class.
